Continuing with the Latin theme used in The Visor, I have called this page Tempus Fugit, which means "Time flies". I have included on this page some historical items, mainly sent in by former pupils. To begin with, here is the programme and menu for the Birkenhead Institute Centenary Dinner held in 1989 to mark 100 years of the Birkenhead Institute, followed by a photograph of the Ingleborough Road arched gates, which I took in 1999.
Here is a photograph of the arched gates in Ingleborough Road which was taken around 1999.
Here is a marvellous drawing of the back of the Whetstone Lane school buildings by Hal Darlington in 1967. Very many thanks to Hal for this fantastic image.
Above is a photograph of the 1968 Fist XI Cricket Team, courtesy of Ben Johnson. It is shown in two parts. Ben has added some information about the photograph below. Many thanks to Ben for this excellent picture from 1968.
Attached is a picture of the First XI in 1968, surprisingly without Mr Malcolm. The captain, I believe, was called Alan Ashworth, he is sitting in the middle of the front row; I'm standing third from the left...the tall one. On my right is Dave Wilson, wicket keeper, and captain in 1969. Sitting on the extreme right is Steve Easdown, and between him and the captain is Dave Mabbutt, who actually sent me the photo. The two Daves, Steve and I were all in the 1st year 6th when this photo was taken. The other players were in the upper 6th or the 5th year.
Above are two of the photographs which former B.I. pupil Robert Johnson has taken on the Sixth Form school trip to Snowden in 1966/1967. Robert was in my class at the B.I., and has kindly sent me details of the photographs that were taken on the trip. More photographs from Robert's collection can be seen at :
